Brasserie Astoria
Stockholm, Sweden
A brasserie-style dining room from a three-Michelin-starred chef, set in an historic building in Stockholm’s Östermalm district. Björn Frantzén, immersive namesake restaurant hit No.6 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2021, here we see his low-key take on French and Italian mainstays play out in no-less dramatic surrounds. Housed in what was a Victorian cinema and social space during the Twenties and Thirties, the neon sign out front belies the nuanced proceedings within. Sure, it's everything you could want to eat – Rockefeller oysters, duck frites, steak tartare, turbot on the bone – but it comes with that Frantzén edge. The mussels come dressed in champagne cream and grilled onion oil. Grilled celeriac is joined by picked Shimeji mushroom. Beef tenderloin is matched by Cambodian peppercorn sauce. A Caesar salad prepared tableside features black smoked pork belly. Cherry sorbet comes with tomato aspic and coffee oil. An ambitious bar list and weekend brunch service are added bonuses.
