Kin Dee
Berlin, Germany
When a restaurant individually names the small producers they work with on their website, you know they’re serious about sourcing. Kin Dee means ‘eat well’ in Thai and this is a sure thing at this much-hyped restaurant, which serves fine-dining versions of traditional Thai food made from ethically-produced German ingredients. Papaya, pike perch and betel leaves are replaced by kohlrabi, sea bream and endive respectively, but curry pastes, marinades and sauces are all the same as those chef Dalad Kambhu grew up with in Bangkok. A la carte menus change seasonally and only ever contain a handful of options, all served family-style, which encourages a buzzy, convivial atmosphere. Located in Mitte, the restaurant itself pulls off ‘smart casual’ to perfection. Chocolate leather sofas and art from Rirkrit Tiravanija, a darling of Berlin’s creative scene, complete the sophisticated look.
