Traditional Armenian restaurant Mayrig first opened in 2003 and became a firm favourite in the Beirut dining scene before tragedy struck in 2020 when an explosion in the port ripped through the venue, gutting it entirely. The family immediately sprung into action, starting a crowd-funder which saw donations pour in, and were able to reopen within months. Now the restaurant is once again buzzing with life, having just launched a sister site in Cairo too, serving the classic Armenian dishes that put them on the map two decades ago. Perfect for sharing family-style, there's a choice of cold mezze like teble (lamb tartare with onion and mint) hot dishes like printzov keufte (crispy rice parcels stuffed with minced meat and pine nuts) plus larger dishes like crispy manti dumplings served with tomato sauce and warm yoghurt alongside a selection of flame-grilled meats.
