Michalska Cocktail Room in Bratislava's Old Town is a proper old school speakeasy, accessed via a wardrobe upstairs at Urban Bistro restaurant. Once you're in there's an artfully distressed vibe and a warm welcome, crammed with mismatched upholstered seating and stylish arched windows overlooking the streets below. Bucking modern speakeasy tradition not all drinks here are brown and stirred down, there's actually a fantastic range of styles, bolstered by monthly specials which could include the Call Me Dundee, which mixes 7-year-old rum with orange liqueur, apricots, passion fruit and orgeat, then tops it with a fancy garnish that incorporates a giant blowtorched marshmallow, or the Absolute Juicy my Mate, which shakes vodka with house-made orange cordial, fresh lemonade, vanilla, lime, jasmine tea and South American maté tea. It's worth noting that the bar fills up fast and reservations are only taken until 8pm, so don't dawdle.
