What’s the lowdown? From its perch on the rocks overlooking Xarraca Bay in the bohemian north of the island, Six Senses Ibiza is a seamless blend of wellbeing and sustainability alongside impeccable five-star service.
How about the design? The hotel is owned by architect Jonathan Leitersdorf, so it’s no surprise that the design is on another level. This starts with the clever way the first view of the property unfolds, which doesn’t reveal the scale of the resort until the last minute. The colours of the buildings blend in with the surrounding scenery, bamboo-clad roofs take their cues from local fisherman huts, while the interiors are an understated and sophisticated palette of local materials revealed through pale woods, leather and stone in neutral tones.
Talk to me about the wellness offering: There is a sprawling 13,000 sq ft spa that, alongside a state-of-the-art fitness area, has a hammam, a steam room and tailored programmes and treatments that cover everything from functional fitness to anti-aging and multi-day immersive retreats. Highlights include the biohacking offerings such as cryotherapy, breathwork and electromagnetic field therapy.
Food and drink: Six Senses Ibiza works with an organic farm in neighbouring Santa Gertrudis, as well as local fisherman for the best produce to feed the kitchens of the hotel’s five restaurants from the Farmer’s Market, which serves an a la carte breakfast, to North, which is helmed by Israeli chef Eyal Shani. Here, expect dishes such as charred beetroot carpaccio or blue lobster with tomato seed butter.
A word on sustainability and community: Six Senses Ibiza is the first sustainable BREEAM-certified resort in the Balearics. Alongside its own organic farm nearby, the resort also runs a dedicated Sustainability Fund which supports local organisations and receives a fixed 0.5% of the total resort revenue. The hotel currently supports eight local organisations dedicated various causes from educating the local community to fighting plastic pollution.
