“In search of the divine” is the tagline of Soma, a classy basement bar in London’s Soho, from the team behind Kricket, the modern Indian restaurant above it. The bar takes some of its inspiration from India too, particularly when it comes to the list of cocktails, all twists on classics, but with ingredients such as Makrut lime leaf and galangal. Chaat, a twist on the Margarita, combines Tapatio Blanco Tequila and Mezcal Verde with chaat masala, gooseberry and kumquat, for example. The bar itself is a sumptuous oasis – enter through the hanging curtains and you encounter an impressive stainless steel bar in a warm atmospheric room with rich, dark tones. There are plenty of bar stools throughout, and a late licence so you can really settle in for the night.
