Yi Long Court
Shanghai, China
Yi Long Court, the flagship restaurant of Shanghai’s The Peninsula hotel, promises a feast for the senses, from the moment you enter the glitzy, 1920s-Shanghai dining room. Amid a refined ambience, a rich colour palette sees Art Deco partitioning create a more intimate impression than the size of the space would suggest, with an eight-seater chef's table only adding to the fun. But while the period styling might make you feel you’ve stepped back in time, the signature dishes dazzle with cutting-edge technique. Feast on the likes of double-boiled soups, delectable dim sum (at lunch), smoked chicken with Chinese tea and crispy rice, crispy beef brisket with chilli and garlic, and braised tiger prawn with mung bean noodles and white pepper, cooked in a clay pot. Desserts include a feather-light sweetened almond cream with egg and a photogenic bouble-boiled papaya with superior bird’s nest.
