Official Wine Partner
The Beronia name is strongly connected to the history of the land that Bodegas Beronia calls home. In the third century BC, the area known today as La Rioja was inhabited by the Berones, a tribe of Celtic warriors, whose first settlements in Tricio, Varea and Leiva, marked the borders of the region that is now known as La Rioja.
The winery was founded in 1973 by a group of friends who chose the village of Ollauri, in the heart of the Rioja Alta, as the place to start a gastronomic society (txoko) and build a winery where they could combine their passion for good food and great wines. They named it Bodegas Beronia, in tribute to the Berones.
The winery is surrounded by vineyards and, in keeping with the team´s commitment to sustainability, is one of the most environmentally efficient and sustainable in Europe. It is also the first to have obtained LEED certification (Leader in Energy Efficiency and Sustainable design). A winery dedicated to aging signature wines, Reserva and Gran Reserva, the heart of the building is home to 7,000 barrels, whilst hidden away on the deepest level is a beautiful semi-curved rack on which 5,000 bottles of Gran Reserva are stored.
Each and every one of the wines reflects the craftsmanship and skill of winemaker and technical director Matías Calleja. A perfectionist through and through, he has won Beronia multiple awards at all of the world’s most prestigious competitions.
