Who, where, what, when: Located in central Osaka’s business district, La Cime showcases the impeccable modern French cuisine of chef Yusuke Takada. Having trained in Lyon and worked in Paris at multi-starred establishments Le Taillevent and Le Meurice, Takada opened La Cime in 2010.

What’s on the plate? Takada’s cuisine is precise, creative, beautifully executed but unfailingly tasty. Along with premium seafood and produce from western Japan, don’t be surprised if you also find citrus and other accents reflecting his birthplace in subtropical Amami Oshima, a small island in the far south of the country.

Pandemic upgrade: Instead of slowing down during the pandemic, Takada got busy. To mark La Cime’s 12th anniversary, he overhauled the restaurant, giving the dining room a more contemporary sheen and adding a window into the kitchen.

Tokyo side story: Takada has also been spending more time in Tokyo as executive chef of Nine, a fine-casual restaurant in the heart of the capital’s Otemachi district, which opened in 2022.

Aiming for the top: La Cime – French for the peak, or summit – entered the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2018 (at No.17, becoming the highest new entry that year) and has continued its ascent since then, reaching No.8 in 2023. Takada himself has also gained recognition, winning the Chefs’ Choice Award 2020, as voted for by his fellow chefs around the region.
