Le Gavroche
London, UK
Since it was first opened in 1967 by Michel and Albert Roux, Le Gavroche has remained one of London’s classic French fine-dining destinations and is currently run by Michel Roux Jr. For the full experience, choose the nine-course ‘Menu Exceptionnel’, which might feature the likes of roasted squab pigeon and raspberry and praline mille-feuille. Head chef Rachel Humphrey (the first female in charge in the restaurant’s history) also serves a vegetarian version of the tasting menu. An extensive à la carte offers everything from black pudding to Cumbrian rose veal. And it would be a crime to not try Michel Roux Jr’s signature soufflé Suissesse. Wine pairings feature labels from Alsace, Burgundy and Bordeaux, as well as the odd English pour.
